[V. Sc. 395 - Internship] [top right]

Internships are cooperative educational programs between the Department of Veterinary Science in the College of Agricultural Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University and approved employers or preceptors who furnish facilities and instruction to help students acquire the skills and knowledge needed in their chosen vocation.

Although many preceptors for Animal BioScience students are practicing veterinarians, students may choose off campus laboratories, institutes, zoos, corporations, government agencies and small businesses as their internship sites. The activities chosen during the internship should provide opportunities for experience in matters that relate to animal health.

The usual pre-requisites for internship participation are fifth semester standing in an animal related major and approval of the department of the proposed plan prior to registration.

Discussion of an internship plan should occur between the student and the course instructor very early in the planning process.
