Support:

Position is supported by the Animal Health and Diagnostic Commission under the auspices of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture. Mission is to provide retrospective problem solving and prospective support for animal based agriculture in Pennsylvania.

Retrospective studies occur on an as-need basis in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Animal Diagnostic Laboratory System, University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine, The Cooperative Extension Service, private practitioners, and other agriculture professionals.

Research:

Ration formulation and nutrition of dairy cattle

Disease prevention and herd health promotion Cost effective delivery of veterinary services to producers

Farm based improvements to food quality and food safety

Co-investigator with Dr. Maddox on a Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture (PDA) grant to study Salmonella sps. in dairy cattle.

Co-investigator in Pennsylvania Dairy Profitability grant with Drs. Muller, Ford and O'Connor to study health and economic parameters in intensive grazing vs conventional feeding systems.

Co-investigator with Drs. Munson and Weinstock in a study to better define diagnostic techniques for Bovine Virus Diarrhea (BVD) in cattle.

Co-investigator with Dr. Drake in prospective evaluation of bovine fetal wasteage.

Collaborator with Drs. Wilson and Wheeler to evaluate veal calf growth and health in relation to air quality.
